Hey there! I know I have been completely missing for several months now but I really can explain. In early June I found out my husband and I were going to be grandparents in January 2013. I then found out we needed to plan and execute a wedding in September. Oh Boy! For me, Summer is my job's busy season. It is loaded with lots of travel and out of state requirements. A wedding and a pending new addition to the family, wow! Where to start? My daughter said , Mom I want you to plan it. You always threw us great birthday parties so please do the wedding. My only guidelines from her were Italian food and Tiffany blue and Pewter as the colors. Not much to start with but OK, how hard can this be....famous last words!
I just got really busy and super focused. Martha Stewart is a hero/terrorist of mine, so I caught myself asking, what would Martha do? And then following that question with, and how do I do it on real world budget? Okay think, Internet, bookstore for bridal magazines and, (yes, public admission of guilt here) several episodes of Say Yes to the Dress. I really would have loved to hire Randy and his Jackie O fascinated self to manage this entire thing.
My sweetheart and I have been married for almost 25 years. Weddings have really changed since then. I have received quite the education on everything from dresses to cakes and from dinner to dancing. How anyone ever managed to get married before the Internet, I can't imagine:) I have had to decide linens, overlays, flowers, candles, alterations, I work with a young woman who is hoping to get married this next year. She came up to me and said, I have never heard of a wedding being put together in four months. I am so impressed, will you plan mine? Needless to say, the room went dark and I remember nothing until I came to in the ambulance (just kidding but you get the idea)!!Fast forward fourteen weeks....I am happy to say that it is almost wedding day and I will get to see how I did. Our families haven't had a wedding in twelve years, so let me tell you everyone is coming! I have folks coming from Oklahoma, Wyoming, and even New York!
I have managed to stitch a little bit here and there but haven't managed to take pictures. I will try to put some up the middle of the week. In the meantime, I am posting a picture of my daughter at her bridal shower, all smiles.
On a side note, last week I started planning the baby shower for December 2nd. If anyone out there has a favorite shower game, please post it or email it to me. I haven't planned a shower in over 20 years so any and all help is truly appreciated:) Until next time, TTFN!

Wow, so cool!! So are you going to start a wedding planner business now? Sounds like you've done a great job! I hope everything goes well and the bride and groom are happy and full of wedded bliss. Your daughter is beautiful! Congratulations also on the future grandbaby!! Such eventful times for you!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I need another career right now, but it would be very fun! Maybe when the other two are out of college. We re all very excited!
DeleteHello! It looks like you're gonna be busy for awhile! I've heard of a shower game where you take different kinds of chocolate candy bars, melt them and put each one in a diaper. Guests then have to identify what kind of candy bar is in each diaper. Hope this helps you out some!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the suggestion! I tink I might have heard of if! Sounds very fun:)
